Overview:

The Kimberley Pilbara Cattlemen’s Association (KPCA) is seeking an experienced and qualified individual to fill the position of Aboriginal Pastoral Academy (APA) Coordinator. The APA is a partnership between community, industry and government that aims to support employment pathways for Aboriginal people in the north-west pastoral industry.

As the APA Coordinator you’ll have a primary focus on creating entry-level workforce opportunities by creating linkages between the north-west pastoral industry and pre-employment training (PET) programs run by Kimberley Aboriginal Controlled Community Organisations (ACCO’s).

You’ll play a pivot role in supporting participating workplaces to be safe, positive and empowering employers. Enhancing their capacity to employ, train and retain early career Aboriginal staff..

Additionally you’ll coordinate and deliver ongoing professional development opportunities for Aboriginal pastoral staff at mid to senior levels in their career.

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Providing industry guidance to ACCO’s to inform their selection and development of work ready graduates.
  2. Promoting the APA to industry and securing sufficient first year employment opportunities annually.
  3. Overseeing the transition of eligible graduates into first-year employment, including ensuring individuals are properly equipped and suitably inducted and that mentor supports are in place.
  4. Supporting participating workplaces to improve their WHS compliance, leadership skills and workforce practices, to support a diverse workforce that includes, and effectively retains, Aboriginal people.
  5. Securing ongoing professional development opportunities for Aboriginal pastoral staff at mid to senior career levels.
  6. Providing secretariat support to the APA Governance Board. Including preparing reports and agendas, writing minutes and recording and following up actions.

Additionally the APA Coordinator needs to undertake all project management duties, promotional duties, and the maintenance of monitoring and tracking database systems.

Who this role would suit:

This role is perfect for someone with experience of both working in the northern pastoral industry, or remote worksites, as well as knowledge and experience of working with Aboriginal people with a focus on youth and/or training and development. We’re looking for someone who is driven and excited by the opportunity to make positive change in the pastoral industry, and young people’s lives.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in the northern pastoral industry and experience of working with Aboriginal people
  • Has, or ability to obtain, a current National Police Check
  • Car license and ability to undertake multiday travel across the Kimberley Region
  • Sound project management experience and well developed conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to provide innovative solutions to complex and challenges issues
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently liaise and collaborate across a range of stakeholders.
