- $129,424- $149,238 pa (Senior Lecturer Level C) + 14% super, 2 weeks additional leave, remote loading + Leadership allowance. Pro-rata if part time.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an exciting leadership position. Principally you will lead our departments highly qualified team of Allied Health Clinical Educators, supporting them to deliver exceptional clinical education to Allied Health students undertaking clinical placements throughout the Kimberley region. In addition, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for this team to grow educational opportunities, collaborate with clinical partners in the region, and engage with universities nationwide looking to place students with our department. This position contributes to the leadership of our department, providing strategic direction and integration with the rest of Notre Dame across its three national campuses. Finally, within this role you will develop your academic career by engaging in research, and the development of teaching programs and resources.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
Since its inception in 1989, Notre Dame has become a leader in higher education and now has over 12,000 students enrolled across its three main campuses in Broome, Fremantle, and Sydney. The Broome campus sits on Yawuru country in the Kimberley region of north-western Australia, in a tropical bushland setting. Collegial departments on campus also includes The Nulungu Research Institute, and School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training, and all departments work collaboratively as part of a close-knit rural university community. Collectively, through its Broome Campus, the university has a special role in the education of, and service to the community of North-Western Australia.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: MAJARLIN KIMBERLEY CENTRE FOR REMOTE HEALTH
Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health (Majarlin) is a Commonwealth-funded University Department of Rural Health (UDRH). Majarlin’s central office is based on the University’s Broome campus and sits as an academic institute within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery and Health Sciences. Majarlin’s aim is to “contribute to the development of a capable and culturally responsive Kimberley health workforce through inspiration, education, innovation, and research”. To achieve this, Majarlin facilitates the delivery of high-quality Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health clinical placements, education, and professional support and engages in collaborative research to progress the rural health evidence base.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Majarlin’s Allied Health team by providing appropriate mentorship, support, and professional development.
- Support Majarlin’s Allied Health Clinical Education team to ensure clinical placements are of exceptional standard.
- Support the Majarlin Allied Health team to scope new clinical placement opportunities and develop innovative training opportunities for Allied Health students.
- Manage the Departments Allied Health resources.
- Grow partnerships between Majarlin and other health service providers in the Kimberley to progress academic programs for undergraduate, postgraduate, and early career Allied Health professionals.
- Engage with Majarlin’s partner universities as part of the Majarlin Leadership team.
- Facilitate networking and professional development events for Allied Health professionals in the Kimberley.
- Support Majarlin to develop and implement activities in the Kimberley community to showcase and attract Kimberley students to consider health professions.
- integration of Majarlin’s clinical education programs with associated university programs.
- Undertake research activities in alignment with Majarlin’s strategic research plan, including conducting research, mentoring staff research, and supporting and collaborating with researchers from within and outside the University and Kimberley community.
- Collaborate as part of the Majarlin Leadership Team in strategic and operational planning of Majarlin’s activities.
- Support Majarlin’s Program Manager in accurate reporting to ensure compliance with University and Commonwealth governance.
- Be available after hours as required to assist students and staff, attend networking and promotional events, including travel.
ABOUT YOU
- Current unrestricted national registration with relevant Allied Health governing body (e.g. AHPRA).
- Post-graduate qualifications related to clinical practice, research, education and/or leadership.
- PhD or significant progress toward a Higher Degree by Research.
- Significant industry experience as an allied health professional
- Demonstrated experience in leadership of health teams (rural and remote settings highly regarded).
- Proven business administration experience in a dynamic and complex environment (higher education experience highly regarded).
- Experience in designing and delivering educational programs (higher education, clinical education and rural settings highly regarded).
- Understanding of the historical and current issues and trends within Higher Education.
- Ability to contribute to Majarlin’s rural and remote research agenda; evidence of a research track record is highly desirable but evidence of interest in pursuing research will be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous people.
- Understanding of the challenges facing Indigenous students and the complex relationship which may govern and influence Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement with education.
- Demonstrated familiarity, sensitivity and respect for the diverse needs, aspirations, and cultures of Indigenous societies.
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly both in a team and independently, and in an environment with changing demands.
- Demonstrated success in the delivery of quality customer service.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of people.
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office and other systems that support academic work, and the ability to learn and implement new systems.

*Majarlin is bound by its Commonwealth contract and as a result only able to offer Fixed Term contracts until the end of its current funding cycle. We have every expectation that this contract will renew and Majarlin staff will be offered a new contract for the next funding cycle.
