Position Title: Alcohol and Drug Support Promotion Officer.
Key Objective: Work as an integral part of the Nindilingarri Health Promotion Team to provide an integrated, holistic and culturally appropriate alcohol and drug health promotion program to residents of the Fitzroy Valley.
Accountability: Reports to Programs and Services Manager; AOD Coordinator
TEAM: Alcohol Drug & Mental Health Team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to, promote and adhere to the philosophy, policies and procedures of the Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services (NCHS);
- Provide day to day assistant to the coordinator of the Alcohol and Drug program;
- Work with the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Team to plan, develop, implement and evaluate Alcohol and Drug health promotion strategies for the people of the Fitzroy Valley;
- Actively support the Fitzroy Valley Health Partnership;
- Foster local capacity building;
- Act in a manner which is responsive to the shared and individual cultural needs of people living in the Fitzroy Valley.
Duty Statement
Employee may be required to do all or any of the following duties:
Health Promotion:
- Work collaboratively with the Drug and Alcohol Office and other key stakeholders to implement the activities in the Fitzroy Valley AOD prevention plan;
- Work with community groups, community councils and other key groups to develop, implement and evaluate AOD Health Promotion strategies;
- Help implement the development of resources and the delivery of health education material to organisations and the community;
- Visit remote communities to support the delivery of education programs, conduct needs assessments, as required
- Be reliable in attendance and productivity;
- Other duties as reasonably required by Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Help in health promotion program planning;
- Help in delivering alcohol and drug education programs;
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member with good communication skills and harmonious work relationships;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to utilize the Internet for research and use common word-processing programs;
- Realistic and flexible attitude, and genuine commitment to working in a remote area with people with differing cultural perspectives;
- Commitment to ongoing professional development;
- A satisfactory National Police Record check (NPR reports will be considered with reference to the inherent requirements of the position);
- A Working with Children clearance;
- Current class “C” driver’s license.
