About this Job

KEY OBJECTIVES:

  • The main purpose of this position is to provide direct care to the clients of the Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services Commonwealth Home Support Programme

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support and participate in accreditation and quality improvement processes and activities at NCHS;

 

  • In conjunction with the Coordinator
    • Review all clients of the service as required
    • Act as interpreter for clients
    • Assess people requesting services as required
    • Keep all client files up to date

 

  • Provide care to clients as agreed with the Coordinator and as written into the client’s care plan. This may include:
    • Assist clients in carrying out self-care tasks including – bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, personal washing, grooming, getting into and out of bed
    • Assist clients with minor dressings.
    • Escort clients to medical / hospital appointments or elsewhere

 

  • Assist clients with social activities including shopping and banking
  • Deliver meals as required
  • Report any changes in client’s health or their home and other circumstances

 

  • Provide housekeeping services as agreed with the Coordinator and as written into the client’s care plan. These may include:
    • Laundry washing and ironing
    • Report any hazards or maintenance requirements within the home

 

  • Record timesheets and other service statistics as requested

 

 

  • Work with the CHSP Coordinator and the CHSP team to ensure overall program goals as set down in the CHSP Action and Strategic Plans as well as timely reporting are met in accordance with NCHS funding body requirements;

 

 

  • Carry out other duties as directed by the Coordinator

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

Essential:

  1. A strong commitment to working with frail aged and younger people with disabilities
  2. Ability to work as a member a multi-disciplinary team
  3. Realistic and flexible attitude to working in a remote area with people with differing cultural perspective

 

 

Desirable:

 

  1. Experience working in a cross-cultural setting
  2. Experience in working with the elderly and / or people with disabilities
  3. Holder of a current first Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
