About the Role

BRAMS is recruiting a full-time Family Support Worker to join our Community Services team, based in Broome, WA. Reporting to the Community Navigation and Support Programs Manager, this role works alongside the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) Allied Health Team to provide early childhood support services for children living with disability or developmental delay, up to the age of 7 years.

This is a role built on connection and trust. The ECEI Allied Health Team provides allied healthcare and advice – you will be the vital link that translates this information to ensure health messages are understood, supports the delivery of services, and helps facilitate the interaction between individuals, family groups, and the community.

All work is delivered in line with the BRAMS Model of Care and Quality Care Framework, with a strong emphasis on culturally safe, person-centred, and trauma-informed practice.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Encouraging and supporting families to access Early Childhood Support services where a child may have a disability or developmental delay
  • Reminding families about upcoming allied health appointments and providing information on their purpose and importance
  • Working closely with the ECEI Allied Health Team and clinic personnel to ensure effective communication and coordination of services
  • Providing advice to the ECEI Allied Health Team Leader about family circumstances that may impact service delivery
  • Coordinating care for families in liaison with existing services and the ECEI Allied Health Team to ensure seamless, wrap-around support
  • Collaborating with other Aboriginal Medical Services, local mainstream, and community services in the care coordination of participants and their families
  • Supporting the delivery of individual and group-based programs, including community-based and outreach health promotion programs
  • Liaising with the Marketing and Events Officer to develop culturally appropriate health education resources
  • Collecting, recording, and monitoring data on participant progress, escalating areas of concern to the ECEI Allied Health Team Leader
  • Maintaining accurate case notes and participant records in accordance with BRAMS’ data entry and record-keeping requirements

About You

To be successful in this role, you must address the following selection criteria in your cover letter:

Essential:

  • Previous experience within an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Service or demonstrated understanding of the Aboriginal community controlled health sector.
  • Certificate III in Individual Support, or willingness to obtain.
  • Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with a range of Aboriginal language and family groups.
  • Experience in local community and Aboriginal culture.
  • Ability and experience working collaboratively and within a team environment.
  • Ability to support the delivery of programs to individuals and small groups.
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of integrity in maintaining community and organisational confidentiality.
  • Current Australian driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience or interest in working with children with disability or developmental delay.
  • Understanding of early childhood development and the importance of early intervention.
