Mount Gibson’s flagship operation is the Koolan Island mine, located approximately 140km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley. The mine is Australia’s highest-grade producer of direct-shipping grade hematite, with an average Ore Reserve grade of 65.5% Fe and a current mine life of +5 years.

About the role:

We are now seeking to employ experienced HD Fitters to join the team at our Koolan Island Operation for a permanent position on a 2:1 Roster (7-day,7-nights,7 R&R) from Perth, Broome, or Derby.
Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor the primary focus of this role is to perform mechanical maintenance and breakdown repairs on all large mining equipment, and other ancillary equipment.
If you like a varied role where no two days are the same, maintaining a wide range of mining equipment be part of a friendly work crew and where your skills and knowledge can really make a difference. Or you could expand your knowledge due to the range of equipment. Due to the location of Koolan all maintenance is carried out on site from the basic tasks to major shut work, this could be the lifestyle and opportunity for you.

Key Tasks and responsibilities may include:

  • Mechanical service and breakdown support on PC4000, EX1200, ZX490 & HD1500-8 dump trucks and associated ancillary equipment
  • Tasks will be conducted both from within the workshop and In-Pit, as required.
  • Scope and assist with major shuts and forecast planning
  • Communicate effectively with maintenance planning team to proactively identify maintenance priorities to meet demands and requirements.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Relevant Australian Trade qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience working in a similar role on a range of heavy duty mine equipment
  • Experience with PC4000, EX1200, ZX490 & HD1500-8 dump trucks or similar
  • Willingness to work both in the workshop and In-Pit as required
  • Current High-Risk tickets with EWP an advantage
  • Operation of Integrated Tool handler and Manitou, is highly advantageous
  • Familiarity with LOP fire Suppression Systems is advantageous
  • Current WA C Class driver’s license.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and demands.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and multicultural workforce.
