About the Position:

The Medical Receptionist is responsible for providing support and be the first point of contact for clients entering the DAHS premises. You will be responsible for a high level of customer service and the entry of client information onto the Patient Information Recall System (MMEx).

In this position, you will work within a multicultural organisation where the majority of employees, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

 

About the Organisation:

Derby Aboriginal Health Service (DAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) providing holistic primary health care services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Derby and surrounding communities. DAHS provide a wide range of innovative public health programs in addition to direct comprehensive primary health care services. It is required to comply with a number of Service Agreements with Commonwealth and State departments and agencies, and to operate with a number of government and private medical and health delivery organisations. The operating environment for ACCHS Australia-wide – has become increasingly complex and changeable in recent years and this is likely to continue.

 

About You:

To be considered for this position, you must have:

 

  • Strong organisational skills, the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines
  • Previous experience as Medical Receptionist or equivalent
  • Well organised, reliable and efficient in manners
  • Commitment to the principles of Aboriginal Community Control Health Services (ACCHS)
  • Demonstrates good understanding of cultural safety
  • Effective communication skills in all aspects
  • High level integrity in maintaining patient and organisational confidentiality
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of professionals and the public, as part of a team

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

 

  • National Police Clearance
  • First Aid Certificate (Basic Life Support)
  • WA Working With Children Check

Desirable:

 

  • Current “C” Class motor vehicle drivers license
  • Experience in using electronic patient information systems and databases within the primary health care setting e.g., MMEx.
  • Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.

 

Responsibilities include:

The scope of this position will include, but is not limited to:

 

  • Establish and maintain first contact with clients and business associates
  • Provide a high standard of reception services to areas of DAHS
  • Maintain a clean and neat reception and waiting room
  • Triage clients when presenting to the clinic
  • Answer the phone pleasantly and promptly, assists with inquiries and takes accurate phone messages
  • Entry of all relevant client clinical data onto MMEx whilst maintaining and updating as required
  • Register clinical incoming and outgoing faxes
  • Ensure all consultation rooms have adequate supplies to enable staff to deliver Comprehensive Primary Health Care
  • Provide administrative support to clinical staff
  • Maintain client demographics within MMEx
  • Prepare and assist the Medicare Clerk with claims for doctor consults and ensure clients, families and children are registered with Medicare
