Mount Gibson Iron Limited is an established independent Australian producer of premium quality direct shipping iron ore (DSO) with assets in the Kimberley and Mid-West regions of Western Australia.

Mount Gibson’s flagship operation is the Koolan Island mine, located approximately 140km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley. The mine is Australia’s highest-grade producer of direct-shipping grade hematite, with an average Ore Reserve grade of 65.5% Fe.

About the role:
We are now seeking to employ an experienced Mobile Maintenance Superintendent at our Koolan Island Operation on a 12 Days On / 9 Days Off (12-hour day) roster from Perth, Broome or Derby.
Reporting directly to the Mobile Maintenance Manager, the primary focus of this role is being responsible for the provision of effective and efficient maintenance and operations for mobile equipment maintenance at Koolan Island and to ensure mobile asset availability, performance and integrity as defined by the relevant integrated maintenance and mine plans.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation of maintenance plans and schedules for work pack tasks of mobile equipment assets. Implementation shall include clearly communicated targets and expectations aligned with site goals and MGI values.
  • Input into the development of capital and operating budgets and plans necessary for facility replacement, safety and legislative compliance and upgrades.
  • Implementation of corrective actions where task activities deviate from plan.
  • Development of functional teams and reporting structures to ensure MGI objectives and values are met including recommendations around recruitment, disciplinary matters, personnel training and organisational structure.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory obligations and company standards.
  • Supervision of nominated contractors operating within areas of responsibility.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations that concern supervised team.
  • Make recommendations as to continuous improvements in maintenance strategies for mobile equipment, systems and processes

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification at the Trade/Diploma/Degree level.
  • WHS Statutory Mining Supervisor course certification including units of competency BSBWHS411 & BSBWHS414 and passed or able to obtain the applicable law examination for Statutory Supervisors in the relevant time period per the legislation.
  • Current Drivers HR Licence
  • 8 plus years in similar industry experience
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar position in the mining or a related industry
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Intermediate level of competence with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Competent in Mining Software including Pronto or similar
  • Engineering background (desirable)
