SUMMARY

The Playgroup and Parenting Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Playgroup and Parenting Program.

SCHADS Level 5 (Pay point based on Qualifications and experience).

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Playgroup and Parenting Program Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations, and management of a small team who deliver the Playgroup and Parenting Program. The Program delivers a supported playgroup through a structured program, based on the principles, practice and outcomes of the Early Learning Years Framework. The program provides a nurturing and inclusive setting, to encourage peer support, model good behaviour and the importance of readiness for school. The program supports parents with children from age 0 – 5 who may be facing barriers to school readiness and attendance due to social and emotional wellbeing circumstances, and works to build parental capacity.

The Playgroup and Parenting Program Coordinator builds and maintains a welcoming, culturally safe space to encourage and build confidence, capacity, and relationships within an educational setting for the parents attending. The Program Coordinator will continue to develop and maintain strong relationships and networks with local service providers and stakeholders to provide a holistic learning setting which nurtures the parents and children.

The Program Coordinator is the main point of contact and source of information for the program, responding to referrals and evaluating outcomes. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, implement and evaluate the Playgroup and Parenting Program in accordance with reporting requirements.
  • Respond to referrals and make first contact with parents to open an engaging communication pathway.
  • Oversee and deliver early childhood programs and activities appropriate to benefit learning and development in children 0-5 years of age.
  • Up-skill parents with 0-5 years old children on the importance of the parent being the first teacher.
  • Oversee, implement and deliver parent workshops around life skills, parenting, health, nutrition and overall wellbeing as informed by participants needs.
  • Supervise, support and lead the Playgroup and Parenting Program small team.
  • Monitor and manage spending of operational funds in-line with program budget.
  • Organise food, meal planning and activity resources on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure premises are child safe for delivery of the program.
  • Assist participants with school enrolments, and support arrangements available to ensure school attendance.
  • Promote and encourage client participation in community events and or other programs targeted at families, to improve their social inclusion and wellbeing.
  • Provide appropriate referral pathways in accordance with participant requests and legislative requirements.
  • Plan, manager and oversee MyTime Progam delivery.

ABOUT YOU

  • A broad understanding of social barriers and emotional wellbeing issues affecting families and young people within the community.
  • Early Childhood Education or Childcare experience, ideally with ATSI people.
  • A strong understanding of local cultures and protocols, and a respectful approach to community attitudes.
  • Passion and drive to make a positive difference to the lives and futures of parents and children in the Community.
  • A flexible work approach, with the ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
  • Experience supervising a team.
  • Willingness to undertake ongoing training.
  • High-level understanding of confidentiality, and privacy.
  • Diploma or Bachelor level qualifications in Early Childhood Education and Care, or equivalent work experience is required.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Working with Children’s Check (WA).
  • Current Police Check (not older than 3 months old).
  • Ability to obtain Senior First Aid.
  • Current Driver’s License (unrestricted).
