An exciting opportunity for a position in Family Outreach Service, Family Domestic Violence Hub. The Primary Prevention Coordinator is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and evaluation of primary prevention initiatives aimed at reducing family and domestic violence (FDV) in the Kimberley. By working collaboratively with partner organizations and targeting key groups, including young people, the coordinator will support a culturally appropriate, trauma informed, holistic approach to healing and FDV prevention.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead primary prevention initiatives within the Hub and through outreach activities in partnership with Family Outreach Service, Anglicare WA, other Alliance partners and stakeholders.
  • Focus interventions across multiple levels of society (individual, relationship, community, and societal) to comprehensively address attitudes, behaviours, and social conditions that drive FDV.
  • Target young people with evidence-based education and messaging to promote healthy relationships and prevent violence before it occurs.
  • Provide training, workshops, and educational sessions that challenge harmful social norms, promote respect, and encourage positive relationship choices.
  • Facilitate dialogue and build trust with communities, especially Aboriginal, CaLD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse), and LGBTQIA+ groups, to address FDV drivers.
  • Collect and analyse data to measure program impact and ensure continuous improvement in prevention strategies.
  • Advocate for systemic change in partnership with community and service providers to improve social norms and structures that contribute to FDV.

 

Key Aims:

  • Strengthen family safety by reducing the incidence of FDV in the Kimberley region.
  • Improve the knowledge of young people regarding healthy relationships and positive behavioural choices.
  • Address the normalization of violence in some Kimberley communities.

 

The person we seek

To be successful in this role you will have the following capabilities:

  • Experience working successfully with Aboriginal staff and clients
  • Experience delivering educational workshops, particularly with children and young people
  • Skills and capacity to engage with government and non-government stakeholders relevant to the project
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Word, Excel, /email, and familiarity with client management systems
  • Experience in the successful delivery of funded programs to achieve an evaluated outcome delivery
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the Kimberley cultural context
  • Ability to travel to Derby and Bidyadanga

 

Qualifications and / or training:

  • Relevant qualifications in social work, public health, community development, or a related field.
  • A current National Police Clearance (prior to commencement)
  • A current WA Driver’s License
  • A current Working with Children Check (prior to commencement)
  • Ability to undertake all training required for FOS/FDV Hub staff.

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Experience working in the family domestic violence setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, and management of primary prevention or community development programs, preferably within the context of FDV prevention.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Aboriginal communities, ensuring working practices are culturally sound and with the ability to communicate effectively in the Kimberley cultural context.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills to build trust and foster collaborative relationships across diverse groups.
  • Ability to apply evidence-based practices and monitor and evaluate program outcomes.

 

What we offer

$105,500 per annum, pro rata (4 years with possibility of extension), 5 weeks Annual Leave with 17.5% leave loading, SGC superannuation, Not for Profit generous Salary packaging, Anniversary payment after 12 months of employment, additional 3 days leave at Christmas, access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and study opportunities.
