About the Project

Kimberley Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (KMS) is a 50/50 joint venture between Sheffield Resources Limited and YGH Australia Investment Pty Ltd (Yansteel). The Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project (Thunderbird) is located mid-way between Derby and Broome, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Thunderbird is one of the largest and highest-grade zircon mineral sands deposits in the world and contains valuable heavy minerals including ilmenite, zircon, leucoxene, and rutile, which  is extracted and exported via the Port of Broome.

About the Role

This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Superintendent Environment Operations to join our growing mining company.

This role will ensure compliance with all environmental approvals and licenses of project works, as well as oversee environmental monitoring, data collection, reporting and environmental field services.

You will work closely with our management and operational teams to deliver on commitments to environmental and cultural heritage obligations as well as mitigating environmental risks.

Location & Roster Options

We have a strong preference for the preferred candidate to reside in the West Kimberley region, with relocation and living allowance provided. However for the right candidate, FIFO from Perth will be considered.

West Kimberley Resident Roster: 5 days on, 2 off, 4 days on, 3 off (Bus in, Bus out from Broome)

Perth Resident Roster: 9 days on, 5 off (Fly in, Fly out from Perth)

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate compliance with environmental regulatory requirements (State and Commonwealth) and company standards, including effectively engaging and liaising with regulators and key stakeholders
  • Proactively reinforce education, investigation, escalation and reporting processes
  • Manage a suite of environmental monitoring and reporting programs
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of cultural heritage monitoring programs
  • Provide key strategic and technical input into KMS operations and future projects
  • Coach team members to develop new skills, manage their performance and support their development

About You

  • Hold a current WA C-Class driver’s licence
  • Hold a tertiary qualification or equivalent in Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences or other relevant science or engineering field
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role within the mining and resource industry
  • Strong computer literacy, with the ability to assess and manipulate diverse and technically complex data sets, including environmental management, GIS and professional reporting platforms
  • An ability to motivate and inspire others to take accountability for the identification, assessment and management of environmental risks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organisation
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment
