About the Role

The Transition to Work Youth Support Officer (YSO) will provide pre-employment support through intensive case management and mentoring to young people aged 15 – 24 years. The position will develop pathways with the young people to improve their work readiness, skills capacity building and address barriers to enter the workforce (including apprenticeships and traineeships), or education and connect to local support services. Within this challenging and rewarding role you will assist young people to create, maintain and achieve their goals.

This role reports to and works closely with the Transition to Work Manager. Successful outcomes for participants are achieved through linkages and collaborations within the community network of local services to provide combined support, by creating a safe and welcoming space, and maintaining regular contact and engagement.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • One on One case management and mentoring
  • Initial assessments to develop plans which include goals and activities that align with the Participants current capacity and capabilities.
  • Data entry and the management of Government System compliance.
  • Targeted support
  • Maintain relationships with Community service providers and initiate new relationships
  • Advocate on behalf of participants to help achieve positive outcomes and facilitate mutual understanding between services and your participants.

About you

To fulfil this role, you will have:

  • A broad understanding of socio-economic barriers and local cultural knowledge, specifically youth
  • Strong computer and digital understanding and skills – this position has high administrative duties
  • Strong established relationships or the ability to create these with stakeholders and available services to provide a holistic approach
  • Demonstrated case management experience or extensive experience working in a similar environment and the ability to mentor and goal plan to achieve positive outcomes
  • A positive approach to young people that empowers and supports them through their needs and goals to reach positive outcomes
  • A natural empathy for people who face hardships and barriers throughout their everyday life
  • The ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
  • A high-level understanding of confidentiality, and current privacy legislation.
  • A high level of communication with verbal, written and digital skills
