Apprenticeships and traineeships allow the flexibility of working while learning on the job skills and gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

You can start an apprenticeship or traineeship once you’re over the age of 15 and even while you’re still at school completing year 11 and 12. For more information or to organise workplace learning, please visit the VET office at Broome Senior High School.

Apprenticeships key aspects

Apprenticeships are a structured program that typically take three or four years to complete with on-the-job and off-the-job training. Traditionally, apprenticeships cover skilled trade areas, including;

  • Engineering
  • Metal fabrication
  • Automotive and mechanical
  • Construction and building
  • Electrical specialisations
  • Hairdressing
  • Landscaping
  • Hospitality and cookery.

Traineeships key aspects

Traineeships are a vocational program that typically take one or two years to complete with hands-on skills and work experience. Traditionally, traineeships cover vocational and occupational choices, including;

  • Multimedia and information technology
  • Sport and fitness
  • Agriculture
  • Music
  • Community services, including aged care and childcare
  • Civil engineering
  • Business
