The Role

We are now seeking several motivated and experienced individuals to join our team as Cook’s assistants to expand our business. As an integral member of the Beyond Broome team, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional hospitality services and creating memorable experiences for our guests.





Key Responsibilities

  1. Ingredient Preparation: Washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables like cucumbers, carrots, and daikon for pickling. Slicing meats such as pork, chicken, and ham, and preparing them according to the shop’s recipes. Preparing and marinating proteins for grilling or roasting.
  2. Bread Handling: Slicing baguettes and ensuring they are fresh and crispy. Warming or toasting bread as needed before assembly.
  3. Assembly of Banh Mi: Spreading condiments like pâté, mayonnaise, or butter on the bread. Layering the various ingredients such as meats, pickled vegetables, fresh herbs, and pepper.
  4. Ensuring each baguette is assembled consistently and according to the shop’s standards.
  5. Maintaining Cleanliness and Organization: Keeping the prep and work areas clean and organized. Sanitizing surfaces, tools, and equipment regularly. Washing dishes, utensils, and cookware.
  6. Stock Management: Checking inventory levels of ingredients and notifying the main cook or manager when supplies are low. Storing ingredients properly to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
  7. Packaging the finished sandwiches for take-out or delivery.
  8. Support for Main Cook: Assisting the main cook with any tasks as needed, including cooking, grilling, or other food preparation activities. Learning and following specific recipes and techniques used in the shop. Adjusting seasoning and ingredients as directed by the main cook.
  9. Health and Safety Compliance:

Following all health and safety guidelines, including proper food handling and storage procedures.

The Ideal Candidate

  1. Qualifications: Relevant qualification in hospitality is recommended, however, not necessary.
  2. Skills: Basic understanding of cooking techniques, food safety and kitchen hygiene practices. Proficiency in chopping, slicing and dicing vegetables and meats quickly and accurately.
  3. Experience: At least 1 – 2 years relevant experience. Experience in preparing ingredients such as marinating meats, pickling vegetables and making condiments. Experience in banh mi shops or sandwich shops are preferred, but not essential.
  4. Physical stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and handle the physical demands of a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  5. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, comfort, and functionality throughout the accommodation facilities.
  6. Problem-Solving Skills: Proactive problem-solving abilities to address guest concerns and resolve issues promptly and effectively. The capacity to handle challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  7. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capability to prioritize tasks, manage resources efficiently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Financial Acumen: Sound financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control measures. The ability to analyze financial data and implement strategies to optimize revenue and profitability.
  9. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with guests, staff, and other stakeholders. Fluency in multiple languages may be advantageous, especially in a multicultural setting.
  10. Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing circumstances and guest needs, including working irregular hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
  11. Industry Knowledge: Thorough understanding of industry trends, market dynamics, and regulatory requirements in the hospitality and tourism sectors, particularly within the Western Australia region.
