Mount Gibson’s flagship operation is the Koolan Island mine, located approximately 140km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley. The mine is Australia’s highest-grade producer of direct-shipping grade hematite, with an average Ore Reserve grade of 65.5% Fe.

About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Production Supervisor at our Koolan Island Operation on an 8 Days On / 6 Day Off / 7 Nights On / 6 Off (12-hour day) roster from Perth, Broome or Derby.

Reporting directly to the Mining Superintendents, the primary focus of this role is supervising load and haul activities, ensuring safe and efficient operations in the open pit mining operation.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with WHS & Mount Gibson Irons Safety, Environmental and other policies and procedures.
  • Ensure active work areas are inspected and made safe each shift and a record of such inspections and corrective actions are maintained
  • Ensure adherence to safe systems of work for all mining activities.
  • Ensure all incidents and hazards are reported.
  • Ensure that all people you utilise are appropriately trained and inducted.
  • Develop a positive safety culture through positive reinforcement and fair treatment for safety breaches.
  • Provide feedback to crews on safety related issues raised from various forums and incidents.
  • Ensure that your reports have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities and that you develop the opportunity for two-way feedback.
  • Develop and retain the relevant competencies and expertise within your area of accountability.
  • Provide your people with appropriate frequent feedback and development opportunities.
  • Provide feedback to Company personnel and contractors on matters that may affect their work.
  • Manage shift crew leave.
  • Work collaboratively with all other support and technical teams
  • Keep the Mining Superintendent aware of all performance and significant issues the affect any aspect of the mine.
  • Provide input to the mine plan development and ensure practicality.
  • Execute daily, weekly and monthly mine plans to achieve volume and spatial compliance.
  • Coordinate and manage multiple work fronts in all mining areas.
  • Optimize mining process and maximise the effectiveness of the mining fleet.
  • Minimize ore dilution.
  • Ensure the mining floor is effectively de-watered by setting up appropriate drainage.
  • Ensure ground support work areas are suitably prepared for Mine Services work groups

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • WHS Statuary Supervisor Qualification, or in the process of gaining this.
  • Senior first aid certificate.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an open pit environment.
  • Experience working with wet mining conditions is desirable.
