We are recruiting people across this great state of Western Australia. Immediate vacancies in Albany, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Derby and Metropolitan locations, however we are also accepting applications for Bunbury, and Broome Regional Prisons.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in a challenging yet rewarding role within the Adult Correctional Facilities.

There are 16 public prisons across Western Australia that offer you the opportunity to work in a diverse range of facilities where you will interact with minimum to maximum security prisoners. You are further supported on the job by experienced staff and management as you work together as a team to keep everyone safe – including the community. If you are resilient, energetic and want a rewarding career where you can make a positive difference, this may be the role for you.

About You

Do you like variety in your work where each day can be different? Do you like working within a team?  Do you have transferable skills from your previous work experience that enables you to think on your feet, motivate and coach people, and de-escalate conflicts?  This could be the job for you.

We are looking for resilient people who can use their life skills and experience to coach and model behaviours that will have a positive impact on prisoners, assisting with their rehabilitation and reintegration back into the community as law-abiding citizens.

To be successful in the role of a Prison Officer you are required to demonstrate:

  • Great communication skills to ensure you build positive relationships with a diverse prisoner population.
  • A practical and common-sense approach to solving problems and the ability to adapt to a wide range of challenging situations.
  • Excellent team working skills to work with colleagues and prisoners to achieve personal and professional goals.
  • A desire to help people work through difficult life experiences by being respectful and showing compassion.
  • An awareness and understanding of Aboriginal people and their culture.

Smoke Free Policy

The Department of Justice has introduced a smoke-free policy, which will be fully implemented across the Academy by 28 February 2024, and all women’s prisons by 28 March 2024, with all other prison sites to follow over the next 12 – 18 months.
